The Lebanese National Commission for UNESCO has organized number of seminars, a list of major ones runs as follow:

- Second reunion for the Cultural Associations in Lebanon: needs, priorities and action plan for the years 2003- 2005: August 7, 2004.
Pursuant to its initiative of 29 November, 2003 that aimed at enhancing the cultural work and activities in Lebanon, the Lebanese National Commission for Unesco organized, in collaboration with the municipality of Zahlé, a second reunion for cultural associations in August 7, 2004. Presidents and members of a large number of cultural associations and committees in Lebanon participated in that event, as well as several journalists and media representatives. The secretary general reiterated abstracts of the previous reunion, prior to opening the discussion around the following themes:
- Lebanon and the culture of today
- Present status of cultural associations in Lebanon
- Needs and priorities of the cultural associations
Consensus was attained around:
- The importance of having a data base of cultural associations and to maintain contacts among them
- Involvement of youth into cultural work
- Proposing various subjects for the associations work programs.

Meetings of the 79th session of the Executive
Board of the Arab Organization for Education, Culture and Sciences
Beirut,8-12 May 2004
In cooperation with the Lebanese National Commission for UNESCO
and under the auspices of his excenllency, Mr Ghazi El-Aridi,
Minister of Culture, the 79 th session of the Executive Board
of the Arab Organization for Education, culture and Sciences
(Alecso) was held in Beirut, from 8 to 12 May 2004, preceeded
by the meetings of the Special Committee from 4-6 th May 2004
.
20 members out of the 22 executive board members representing the respestive arab countries, Jordan, Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Tunisia, Algeria, , saudi Arabia, Sudan, Somal, Irak, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, kuwait, Lebanon, Lybia, Morocco, Egypt, Mauritania, Yemen, as well as the observators from the Arab League, Unesco, examined the various items of the meeting agenda among which were the following:
- The Arab strategy for the development of Higher Education
- The Arab strategy for Distant Learning
- The Arab participation in the upcoming Frankfurt book fair
- The cooperation with Unesco in the execution of the Arab Plan for Arab Culture (Arabia)
- The specialized Arab Encyclopedia around "The prominent Arab and Moslem scholars"
- A project for the write up of two References on " the History of the Arab Nation" and " the geography for the Arab world without frontiers"
One of the agenda items "The Horizon of the Arab collective work in the domains of education, culture and sciences" was tackled by Minister Aridi's, lecture on the subject.

- Seminar on Teaching of Arabic: Problems and possible solutions
Unesco Palace, 21 February 2004 
On the occasion of the International Day of Mother Tongue, the Lebanese National Commission for Unesco organized under the patronage of Mrs. Bahia Hariri, Chairperson of the parlimentarian committee for education and in collaboration with the Arab Organization for education, Culture and Sciences (ALECSO), a seminar on "Teaching Arabic: Problems and possible solutions".
A large number of university professors, educators, school teachers and journalists participated in the seminar. The activity started with the opening session where two introductory speeches were given respectively by Mrs Salwa Saniora Baassiri , Secretary General of the Lebanese National Commission for Unesco and Mrs Bahia Hariri, followed by a documentary entitled "Arabic Language and the Youth" which was produced by Mr. Bahij Hjaij. The film highlighted the confused relationship between the Youth and the Arabic language, and the causes of that confusion.
The first working session, presided by Mr. Henri Zoghaib,Vice -president of the Lebanese National Commission, was devoted to the presentation of various views regarding the problems that face teaching Arabic and possible solutions. Relevant interventions were presented by Dr. Fawzi Ayoub, Dr. Youmna El-eid, Dr. Henri Ouweiss, and Dr. Ahmad Hatoum.
The second session was dedicated to the presentation of three experiences as applied in three educational institutions, in addition to the experience by Al-Zahran Schools - Saudi Arabia - Mrs.Rima Jammal and ghada Zaabalawi, International College - M. Hamdi Houalla , American University of Beirut -Dr. Amal Bouzeineddeine in addition to the experience of a specialist in Children write up -Mrs Amal Ayoub Freiji. Other experiences were presented as well of which that of Makassed Association Schools and Hariri College II.
The discussion tackled the social and educational dimensions of teaching arabic as well as the learning skills, programs, curriculum, faculty, books, materials and performance assessment.
In conclusion, Dr. Adnan al-Amin, member of the executive board of the Lebanese National Commission, presented the conclusions that arrived at:
- The need to adopt interactive methods in teaching arabic which bring closer teachers and students, students and texts, students and language utilisation in daily life.
- The need to professionalize teaching and to ensure on the job training.
- The need to use audiovisuals, computers and other new technologies as means of educational support .
- The need to use extracurricular educational material
- The need to produce educational material in Arabic .
- The need to promote cooperation between schools in the field of teaching Arabic .

On the Occasion of the Universal Day of Human rights Documentary Film on Laure Moghaizel A plenary session on Human rights and Civil Peace in Lebanon

On the Occasion of the Universal Day of Human rights, the Lebanese National Commission for UNESCO organized, under the auspices of H.E. Minister of Justice Mr. Bahige Tabbara a ceremony in honour of Mrs. Laure Moghaizel .
A large group of officials, representatives of human rights associations, university professors and school teachers and students attended the ceremony as well as colleagues, relatives and extended family of Laure Moghaizel .
The secretary general of the Lebanese National Commission, Mrs. Salwa Saniora Baassiri gave the opening speech indicating that Laure Moghaizel was chosen to be the subject of the first documentary film in a series of documentaries entiltled " Personalities from Lebanon" in recognition of her relentless efforts to diffuse the culture of human rights in Lebanese civil society and for her remarkable contribution to screen the Lebanese legislation from any discriminatory texts .
Mr. Bahige Hojeij the director of the documentary film made a brief introduction about the make up of the film followed by Dr. Antoine Messara, professor at Lebanese University and Member of the Executive Bureau of the National Commission , who highlighted " Laure Moghaizel " Living history for the memory of the new generation" .
Dr. Fadia Kiwan, Director of Political and Administrative Institute at St. Joseph University and President of the Lebanese National Commission, made an intervention about "The current challenges facing human rights". Mr. Sleyman Takieddine, lawyer and writer gave an intervention on "the status of Civil Peace in Lebanon" .
H.E. Minister Bahige Tabbara gave the closing speech enumerating the honourable stops in Laure Moghaizel cherishable life .

Cultural Associations in Lebanon: needs, priorities and action plan for the years 2003-2005 : UNESCO Palace, 29 November 2003. 
With the objective of exchanging views regarding the current situation of the cultural life in Lebanon and the future tendencies, needs and priorities and in order to elaborate an action plan for the years 2003-2005, the Lebanese National Commission for UNESCO organized a discussion session that grouped a large number of Cultural associations in Lebanon.
Three interventions were presented in order to entice the discussion
- Dr Zahida Darwiche: "The subject and the goals of the meeting"
- Dr Nazih Kabbara: "Cultural Associations and the citizens: prospects and priorities"
- Dr Antoine Messarra: "Cultural Associations in the regions and the Youth associations: prospects and priorities"
-Conclusions and recommendations arrived at through the discussion were presented by , Mr Henri Zgheib, among which: to convene an annual conference that groups the cultural associations in lebanon from all its regions, and to have a main theme of the conference focus around the current cultural preoccupations and concerns

On the occasion of the Philosophy Day, adebate on "Philosophy and the Public Affairs": UNESCO Palace, 20 November 2003.
The Lebanese National Commission for UNESCO organized a discussion session on "Philosophy and the Public Affairs" on the occasion of the Philosophy Day that UNESCO celebrates for the second year .A large group of university teachers, researchers, students and media representatives participated in the event .
Mrs. Salwa Saniora Baassiri, secretary general of the Lebanese National Commission for UNESCO gave the opening speech followed by an introductory statement by the moderator Dr. Souad Hakim, philosophy professor at the Lebanese University .
Three discussants tackled the following three topics in the first session :
- Dr. Nassif Nassar, philosophy professor at the Lebanese University, "Philosophy and the concept of Public Affairs"
- Dr. Waddah Nasser , philosophy professor at the American University of Beirut and Associate Provost, "Philosophy in application-the ethics"
- Dr. Georges Zinati, philosophy professor at the Lebanese University "Philosophy from private to public - the relation between philosophy and the scientific development"
At The second session three discussants tackled the following topics :
- Dr. Antoine Seif, philosophy professor at the Lebanese University, "Philosophy and the Public at large - illusions and confused attitudes"
- Dr. Bachar Haïdar , philosophy professor at the American University of Beirut, "Philosophy and Economic justice"
- Dr. Mohammed Ali Khalidi, philosophy professor at the American University of Beirut, "Philosophy Teaching - appraisal of school curricula" .

Seminar on Assisted Pregnancy techniques : an ethical perspective Ethics, a curriculum course at Faculties of Medicine on the occasion of Launching
the Arab Committee for Ethics of Science and Technology : Beirut, 25 - 26 August, 2003. 
The Lebanese National Commission for UNESCO organized, under the auspices of H.E. Prime Minister Rafic El-Hariri, represented by H.E. Mr. Marwan Hamadeh Minister of Trade and Economy & President of the Lebanese National Consultative Committee for Bioethics, a scientific seminar which tackled two topics "Assisted Pregnancy techniques : an ethical perspective" and "Ethics : curriculum course at Faculties of Medicine".
The Seminar was held on the occasion of Launching the Arab Committee for Ethics of Science and Technology and organized in collaboration with the Arab League Organization for Education, Culture and Science (ALECSO), the World Islamic Call Association and the Lebanese National Consultative Committee for Bioethics.
Session I tackled the first topic and was chaired by Minister Marwan Hamadeh . Two presentations were made; by Dr. Adnan Mroueh, Head of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the American University of Beirut and Vice -President of Lebanese National Consultative Committee and by Dr. Fathieh Zaghal, Professor in the Faculty of Science- Tunis University .
Session II tackled the second Topic and was chaired by Dr. Fouad Boustani, the Secretary General of Lebanese National Consultative Committee for Bioethics . Dr. Mustafa Khogali, Head of Department of Family Medicine and President of Ethical Committee -Medical Center of the AUB, talked about the experience of the American University of Beirut and Dr. Pierre Farah, Dean of Faculty of Medicine talked about St Joseph University experience .
The second Topic was enriched by interventions presented by members of the Arab Committee for Ethics of Science and Technology . Dr. Abdallah Abed el Rahman Zayed talked about "Medicine , profession and Ethics" and Dr. Helmi Abel Razzak El Hadidi about "Education of Ethics, basis for good medical practice" and Dr. Abdallah Said Hatab about "Current Trends in Medical Ethics Education" .
On August 26, 2003 the Arab Committee for Ethics of Science and Technology held the constitutional meeting during which statutes of the committee were reviewed and approved .

National Seminar on "winidams and Winisis softwares"
Unesco Palace, 19-27 May 2003 
The Lebanese National Commission for UNESCO organised under the patronage of the Minister of States for Administrative Reform and in collaboration with the Arab Organization for Education, Culture and Sciences (ALECSO) a national training seminar on "winidams and Winisis softwares" .
60 participants, representing ministries, public institutions and the Lebanese University libraries, attended the training seminar which was run by M. Sherif Fouad- Informatics Expert at the Arab league Organization. The participants vital interaction allowed them to acquire an overall understanding of the basic concepts as well as an in depth knowledge of the programs, the user interfaces and the components.
The training seminar which targeted to enhance the participants skills for a better usage of the two softwares, was geared in full towards an applied approach and practical exercises.
The participants expressed their great interest in the Windams & Winisis softwares, especially the Arabic version of Winisis, and recommended to have an arabized version of Winidams, stressing its great attribute to their professional activities.

Arab Experts Meeting to review the draft Regional Plan for Creativity in Culture and Media: Beirut, 4 - 9 November 2002
The Arab Organization for Education, Culture and Sciences (ALECSO) organized in collaboration with the Lebanese National Commission for UNESCO an expert meeting to review the text of the draft Regional Plan for Creativity in Culture and Media in Beirut between 4-7 November 2002.
Arab experts were designated by ALECSO to review and appraise the text as prepared by Dr. Hussein Al-Awdat (Syria).
The experts are:

The Lebanese National Commission for UNESCO organized in collaboration with the Arab Organization for Education, Culture and Sciences (ALECSO) a seminar on
"The creativity in culture & media within the context of globalization :
a Regional Plan "
The seminar tackled the following five main themes :
- The composites of the arab culture in the era of globalization
where four presentations were given by : Dr. Wajih Kawtharani ( Lebanon) Dr. Mohammad Sabila (Morocco)-Dr. Ali Akla Arsan (Syria)- Dr. Mohammad El Moctar Ould El Saad (Mauritania)
- Creativity and communication in the era of globalization
where four presentations were given by : Dr. Issam Suleiman Al -Moussa (Jordan) -Dr. El- Mounsef Wannas (Tunisia)- Dr. Nasser Shamam (Tunisia)- Mr. Abdel Rahman Al-Amri (Tunisia)
- The enhancement of creativity in the educational curricula and the reinforcement of youth participation
where two presentations were given by Dr. Mouza Ghabach (United Arab Emirates) and Dr. Abou Bakr Bakadr (Saudi Arabia)
- The reinforcement of the role of women in the society and in the cultural life
where two presentations were given by Mrs. Zahira Kamal (Palestine) and Dr. Zahida Darwich Jabbour (Lebanon)
- Cultural and communication policies for the advancement of creativity
where two presentations were given by Dr. Hussein Al -Awdat (Syria) and Dr. Majid Dahman (Algeria)
The deliberations of the working sessions, which would ultimately contribute to the elaboration of a regional plan for promoting creativity in culture & media insitutions, where concluded by a number of recommendations, among which :
1. Invite the cultural, educational and media institutions to open up to global culture and to work in order to transmit it to the arab fora
2. Review and appraise the arab cultural heritage and revive the vibrant intellectual and artistic heritage to be a resourceful and effective reference to creativity . Equally true appraise the cultural globalization via an objective and relevant criteria .
3. Review the rules and regulations that govern the censorship practices on culture and creativity and recognize the right to freedom of expression, communication and dialogue
4. Reevaluate the educational curricula and the arab school role and mission in order to have then more accomodating for creativity
5. Modify the image of women as stereotyped in school books and curricula, being a necessary step towards recognizing women's creative capacities and then vital role in shaping the society, and in participating in decision-making and in elaborating the relevant policies
6. Encourage the mass media and the educational institutions to disseminate the usage of classical arabic within the different fora and to avoid, in as much as possible, the usage of the slang language
7. Encourage the translation of internationally creative works from and / to arabic
8. Encourage the cinematography and the television and theatrical productions which ensure the advancement of creativity, and review the policies that govern the cultural festivals in order to have them more conducive to creativity
9. Issue the needed legislations and adopt the pertinent policies that enhance creativity and permit creative workers to work full time and protect their intellectual property and promote their creative works.

Seminar on"Regional Meeting of UNESCO Clubs of the Arab States " :
1-3 February, 2002, Beirut, Lebanon
The Lebanese National Commission for UNESCO organized under the patronage of the Minister of Culture, Dr. Ghassan Salameh, and in collaboration with UNESCO_Divison of the relations with national commissions and new partnership and the Eorld Federation of UNESCO Clubs, Centers and Associations (WFUCA), the Regional Meeting of UNESCO Clubs of the Arab States from February 1 till 3, 2002.
UNESCO Arab federations and clubs were presented as follows:Egypt (UNESCO Club- Faculty of Education-Ein Chams University)- Kuwait (UNESCO Club - Kuwait)- Lebanon (UNESCO Clubs-Nabatieh social Establishment ; UNESCO Club- Youth Club of Zrarieh; Cultural Arab Club - Youth Committee)- Palestinian Authority (National Federation of UNESCO Clubs)- Sudan (National Federation of UNESCO clubs)- Tunisia (UNESCO ALECSO Club of Tunis) also observers from arab national commissions: Jordan- Syria- Yemen.
The WFUCA was represented by the secretary general, Mr. Patrick Gallaud, while UNESCO was represented by : the Assistant Director-General, Mr. Ahmed Sayyad, on behalf of the Director General of UNESCO; the Director of the Division of Relations with National Commissions and New Partnerships, Mrs Marie-Louis Kearney; the program Specialist in the Section of UNESCO Clubs and New Partnerships, M. Kuni-Aki Yamashita; the Program Specialist in the Sector for Culture, M. Salem Hasan; the Regional Information Officer in the Office of Public Information, Mr. Bassam Mansour.
The Meeting lasted for three days where number of issues were tackled during the working sessions of the first day among which, the role of UNESCO Clubs in the meduim-term strategy 2002-2007,the clubs activities in the arab states, the proposition for organizing common activities, the importance of the creation of Arab federation, the world Charter of UNESCO Clubs, the strategy of the WFUCA as a partner of UNESCO, the perspectives of the world Congress of the WFUCA of 2003.
The second day, on the occasion of the adoption of UNESCO universal declaration on cultural diversity, and a round table was organized on cultural dialogue, which was presided by Dr. Fadia Kiwan, the president of the Lebanese National Commission for UNESCO and had four speakers, three professors from different universities in Lebanon being; Dr. Fawaz Traboulsi- from the Lebanese American University (LAU), Dr. Hassan Krayem- from the American University of Beirut (AUB), Dr. Antoine Messara- from the Lebanese University (LU), also a member of the Commission, in addition to M. Salem Hasan- the Program Specialist in the Sector for Culture.
The third day, the participants adopted the recommendations of the meeting being classified into three categories those addressed to UNESCO. To National Commissions, and WFUCA and to UNESCO federations and clubs of the Arab States of the recommendation was the appeal for solidarity in favor of the Palestine National federation of UNESCO Clubs.
The most outstanding recommendations of the meeting were as follows:

adopt the opening speech of H.E. the Minister of Culture, Dr. Ghassan Salameh as one of the Meeting documents, and to highlight his recommendation "to consider the cultural factor as a key element in world economy as well as the world politics. Also to hold the participants accountable for, being responsible for the culture and being friends of UNESCO or members of his clubs, defending the cause of UNESCO and ALECSO, and the other world organizations and to strive, to enhance their roles.

Invite UNESCO to incorporate in its program, and budget moral and financial support to the WFUCA being a partner of UNESCO, and to the UNESCO Clubs in fulfillment of their mission.

Work towards the establishment of UNESCO clubs and national federations in the Arab states that don't have them.

Invite the national commissions to work for the establishment of of UNESCO clubs in the universities, coordinating in that with UNESCO and the ministries concerned.

Invite the WFUCA to organize for workshops with the objectives of empowering the supervisors and members of UNESCO clubs in the Arab States.

Invite the UNESCO clubs in the Arab states to adopt the UNESCO universal declaration on cultural diversity and to push towards a serious dialogue among civilizations.

Invite the UNESCO clubs in the Arab states to support "the preparatory committee" composed of Kuwait, Lebanon and Tunisia and entrusted implementation of the recommendations of the Meeting and to see to the elaboration of a strategy for establishment of the Arab federation of UNESCO clubs.

Seminar on"the cooperation between schools and other educational institutions within the context of the advancement of quality education in Lebanon" :

The Lebanese National Commission for UNESCO organized under the auspices Mrs. Bahia Hariri,President of the parliamentarian committee for education, a seminar on "the cooperation between schools and other educational institutions within the
context of the advancement of quality education in Lebanon" The seminar was held in UNESCO Palace on January 17, 2002.
The first session which was presided by Mrs Hariri where two interventions were presented by Dr. Munir Bachour on the "Twinning between schools: a bottom important educational reform process" and by Dr. Simon Faddoul on "Cooperation towards educational change"
The Second and third sessions were devoted to President specific experiences and testimonies relevant to cooperation between schools and other educational institutions within the context of the advancement of quality education. They were presented as follows:
- The UNESCO experience within the context of the Associated Schools Project Network (ASP):
- at the international level: presented by Ms. Imane Karain
- at the national level by Mrs Hala Soubra Itani
- That of Association of the public school friends by Mr. Souhail Matar
- That of the international College by Mrs. Michka Moujabber Mourani
- That of the Rafic Hariri High school-Saida by Mrs Randa Al- Darazi Al- Zein
- That of the villages Schools of the Makassed Islamic Charity Association by Dr. Kamel Dallal
- That of the St-Joseph University and the Network of affiliated secondary schools by: Dr. Raji Abou Chacra
- That of the St-Joseph University: twinning between the University and number of private and public schools by Mrs. Carmel Wakim.

Meeting on "how to develop modes of thinking skills of secondary school students " :
12-15 November 2001 Beirut-Lebanon 
The Lebanese National Commission organized, in collaboration with the Arab League Organization for Education, Culture and Sciences (ALECSO), a meeting on "how to develop modes of thinking skills of secondary schools" from 12 to 15 November, 2001.
This meeting was considered phase one of a comprehensive project designed by ALECSO and aimed at identifying modes of promoting thinking skills of the students and to enhance their scientific tendencies.
The meeting sessions discussed during four days the constructional scientific thinking, the constructional critical thinking, the constructional creative thinking, and focused on the teachers manual, on development of modes of thinking, edited by ALECSO.
Worth mentioning that the closure session was dedicated to a meeting with secondary school students from Lebanese schools where the experts listened to the students opinions on intellectual activities practiced in the educational process by the teachers and the contribution of this activities in the development of scientific, critical and creative thinking and on the teachers manual.

Seminar on "Current Research trends in social sciences vis a vis the actual needs of the Lebanese society" : 9 June 2001 Beirut-Lebanon
The seminar which was organized under the patronage of His Excellency Minister of Education, attempted to review the research efforts undertaken in the last decade, in Lebanon and about Lebanon, in the domain of social sciences. The research, whether done at the institutions of higher education or at research centers or by independent researchers, was to be appraised as well, as to what extent it could respond to the actual need of the Lebanese society.
The seminar restricted its scope to four major fields of concern, sociology, Economics, political science and social psychology.
Seven experts presented 7 working papers dealing with the 4 areas of concern, specifically under the following sub-themes:
I- Sociology:
a-Lebanon in the domain of sociology; the relevant research done within the various Lebanese Universities at both the doctorate and the masters level.
II- Economics:
a- The framework and policies of Economic studies, in view of the development and reconstruction needs of Lebanon.
b- The financial and monetary policies versus the research done in the area of financial and monetary policies.
III- Political sciences:
a- The latest developments in Lebanese political life, the political system and the practices as in the relevant to the research done within universities
b- The basic outcome of political research done outside Universities
IV- Social Psychology
a- Status of research regarding the social adjustment and cohesion of the Lebanese society
b- Women's issues and research in the light of current problems and practical needs.

Seminar on "The Strategic Orientations for Education in Lebanon up to year 2015:
4 May 2001 Beirut-Lebanon
A panel meeting was held to discuss the document "Strategic Orientations for Education in Lebanon up to year 2015". The document was prepared by a group of experts in accordance with the ministerial decree 839/2/99 dated 23 Nov. 1999.
Six panelists presented and appraised the document which diagnosed the major areas of concern for education in Lebanon and suggested relevant remedies. The document sorted the areas of concern under the following six headings:
- Educational Pockets of deprivation
- Islands of quality education
- Contribution of education to social integration
- Contribution of education to sectoral development and labor market needs
- Expenditure on education
- Governance of the educational system

Seminar on challenges and perspectives of 2020 : 11 April 2000 Beirut-Lebanon
In collaboration with Alecso, a seminar was organized on the challenges and
perspectives of 2020. Five papers were submitted and discussed during the
sessions of the seminar which focused on five themes that were considered
priority areas in the Arab region.

Seminar on Youth policies : 27 November 1999 Beirut-Lebanon
Within the framework of MOST, a seminar was organized on youth policies in Lebanon. Experts in the field submitted papers that tackled youth's various areas of concern. Youth NGO's were invited to enrich the discussion.

- Seminar on the development of Touristic and Cultural aspects of Municipalities:
26-28 August 1999 Beirut-Lebanon
Within the framework of promoting the role of municipalities, especially with respect to cultural tourism, a seminar was held to discuss the means to activate cultural tourism and the role of municipalities in that respect.

A consultative meeting on Education For All: 29 October 1998 Beirut-Lebanon

Education stakeholders, from the publicand the private sectors as well as UN agencies and NGOs representatives were invited in order to create a national working team for the preparation of the EFA National report.

24 July 1998 Beirut-Lebanon
Three Expert in the field were requested to submit papers on the following topics:
- Arabisation in Higher Education
- Translation in relation to Social life
- The status of translation in Lebanon

Seminar on "The status of Public School Libraries" :10 March 1998 Beirut-Lebanon
The seminar focused on the status and problem of Lebanese public school libraries, and means to promote them. A number of specialists in the field were invited. They discussed topics related to the seminar subject.
