The Lebanese National Commission for UNESCO organized over the last three years a number of workshops. The list of major workshops runs as follow:

Visit of German Delegation May 18-21, 2005 :
Within the context of the euro-arab dialogue, the Lebanese National Commission for UNESCO organized a tour in Tripoli for a german delegation, composed of 12 teachers from different associated schools of Lower Saxonie region, in preparation for a workshop to be conducted in November 2005 for students from Germany , Lebanon and Jordan with the objective of producing an e-magazine .
The delegation visited the associated schools, Rawdat El Fayhaa school-Tripoli, International College, Institut Moderne du Liban-Fanar, Baalbeck Public Secondary School for girls, also visited the sites of Baalbeck, Byblos, Tripoli and national museum .

Regional Workshop "Empowering schools to plan and implement health programmes for the surrounding community": 9-13 June, 2003 Beirut, Lebanon
The Lebanese National Commission for UNESCO (LNCU) organized, under the auspices of H.E. Minister of Education and Higher Education, Mr. Samir El-Jisr, and in collaboration with the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) and the Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office of the World Health Organization (EMRO), a regional workshop on "Empowering schools to plan and implement health programmes for the surrounding community" in the presence of 19 participants from 11 Arab countries and four experts as well as representatives of the organizing parties .
The workshop dealt with 7 papers presented by 4 experts on the following topics : an overall perspective of health education, an operational health school curricula, health education from an Islamic perspective, the Islamic patterns of behaviour that enhance health : health education in the light of the Holy Koran, the mechanism to mainstream health education in school curricula, the mechanism for development of health education in the arab countries schools, the role of school in planning and implementing health programmes in favour of the surrounding community .
Participants from the arab countries shared their experiences in health education . Besides, field visits were made to three schools with the objective of learning about the respective experiences in health education . The schools were Makassed- Khadija El Kobra School-Beirut, Rafic Hariri High School-Sidon and Hajj Baha El -Dine Hariri School-Sidon.
A courtesy visit was made to Mrs. Bahia Hariri, the chairperson of the parliamentary education committee . In addition, touristic visits were made to some cultural sites in Sidon : Khan-El Franj and Soap Museum . The workshop was concluded with number of
recommendations of which the following :
- to draft national strategies on school health that define targets and objectives, as well as the executing agencies, governmental and non- governmental
- to adopt the schools initiatives in health education to be a suitable framework for health enhancement among students and their families
- to accord special importance to health education as means to develop life skills and to reinforce the student personal responsibility and to empower him to decode the media messages that are not compatible with health observation
- to periodically review the school curriculum to be in conformity with the latest health developments
- to complement school curriculum by extra curricula activities including the health clubs and students and scouts activities
- to underscore the role of Islam in health education, and to put to use the Islamic health ways of life through school health programmes
- to invite ISESCO and the Arab Organization for School Health & Environment as well as other parties concerned to establish Arab schools network with the objective of disseminating information about the schools successful experiences .

Workshop on "Information Technology and Internet Services" : 
Unesco Palace, 27-28 March 2003
The Lebanese National Commission for UNESCO organized, under the patronage of Mrs. Bahia Hariri, chairperson of the parliamentarian committee for Education, and in collaboration with the Islamic Organization for Education, Sciences and Culture (ISESCO), a workshop on "Information technology and Internet services". 32 participants, representatives of ministries, public institutions and the Lebanese University libraries, attended the workshop, which was run by Mrs. Aida Farha- reference Librarian of Saab Medical Library at the American University in Beirut. The workshop which aimed to enhance participants skills for a better usage of Internet, was geared in full towards an applied approach and practical exercises.

Workshop for UNESCO Clubs on Planning and Project management :
8 March 2003 
The Lebanese national Commission for UNESCO organized in cooperation with the "master plan" for training , studies and research directed by Dr. Mounah Geha, a workshop for UNESCO Clubs on "planning and Project Management" with the participation of 20 members of UNESCO Clubs. The workshop comprised an opening session, where the Secretary General, in the presence of the advisor of LAY UNESCO Club, handed the members the certificates of participation for a former workshop, and two working sessions the first of which centered around the formulation, planification and management of a project and the second was dedicated for practical exercises according to which the participants were distributed into 4 working groups.
The members were encouraged at the close up to plan a project of their choice for future implementation.

Meeting on Preventive Education ; Lebanese Modern Institute: 13 December 2002
The Lebanese national Commission for UNESCO organized on December 13, 2002 a meeting having as a theme "the preventive Education" at the Lebanese Modern Institute. The meeting falls within the framework of the joint activity program of the ASPnet Lebanon with the objective of promoting cooperation among the various schools in their endeavors to serve the local community.
Participants were mainly from the associated schools of mount Lebanon region which adopted the said project, in addition to schools from the other regions. The speakers were Mrs. Noha Baz- Pediatrician- and a group of professionals from "Oum El Nour" Association which is specialized in preventive measures and treatment of drug addiction.
The meeting furnished the schools concerned with basic information in the said subject while a follow up scheme will be ensured via relevant activities in the respective schools.

Meeting on the integration of students with special needs: Ahlieh School
20 November 2002
The Lebanese National Commission for UNESCO organized on November 20, 2002 a meeting having as a theme " The integration of Students with Special Needs" at the Ahlieh school. The meeting falls within the framework of the joint activity program of the ASPnet Lebanon, with the objective of promoting cooperation among the various schools in their endeavors to serve the local community.
Participants were mainly from the associated schools of Beirut region which adopted the said project, in addition to schools from the other regions. The speakers were Mrs. Layla Akkouri Dirani from Université Saint Joseph, Mrs. Nahida El Zahabi from "Nazek El Hariri Association for Development of Human Capacities" and Mrs. Fadia Farah from the "Down Syndrom Association.
The meeting furnished the schools concerned with basic information in the said subject, while a follow up scheme will be ensured via relevant activities in the respective schools.

Training Session on Human Rights at AUB UNESCO Club: 19-20 October 2002 Beirut-Lebanon 
The AUB UNESCO Club hosted a workshop on human rights, organized by the Arab Institute for human rights (AIHR) in collaboration with the Office of High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), at the American University of Beirut campus, for two days, October 19 and 20, 2002. More than 20 participants, students and members of UNESCO Club, attended the training session, which comprised an opening lecture entitled "human rights in the international and regional context: problems and challenges " (Dr. Medeni-representative of OHCHR).
The training session tackled the following topics: the terminology specific to human rights; the identification of the various categories of human rights; the nternational mechanisms for the protection of human rights and a case study (Dr. Ahamd Karoud, representative of the office of Amnesty in Beirut); in addition the topic of the right to the election in the international system of human rights and the Lebanese electoral law was also presented.
The training session ended by distributing certificates to all participants

The twinning:a meeting for the associated schools in Lebanon:
25 April 2002 Beirut-Lebanon
The Lebanese National Commission for UNESCO organized for the directors and coordinators of the lebanese schools, members of the UNESCO associated schools project network (ASP).
The objective of the meeting was to discuss the possibility of "twinning" number of associated schools. The relevant experiences of Lycée Verdun, Laure Moghaizel Public High School for girls, and Makassed Associated were presented.
The meeting came up with a project plan promoting twinning between associated schools in Lebanon in order for them to collaborate in human rights and civics education.

Evaluation Meeting for the Associated Schools Network:
18 April 2002 Beirut -Lebanon
The Lebanese National Commission for UNESCO organized a meeting for the directors and coordinators of the lebanese schools, members of the UNESCO associated schools network. The objective of the meeting was to conduct an overall appraisal of the activity of the network in Lebanon, after 7 years of its registration in the UNESCO network.
This meeting was organized within the framework of the general evaluation of the UNESCO associated schools network that is being undertaken by the organization in preparation for the Conference that will take place in 2003 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the launching of the network.

Introductory Meetings and Workshops for members of UNESCO clubs in some Lebanese universities :
The Lebanese National Commission for UNESCO launched its project "UNESCO Clubs at the Lebanese Universities" at the outset of the academic year 2001-2002.
With this regard, four introductory meetings were organized at the campuses of the American University of Beirut, the Lebanese American University (both in Beirut and Jbeil), the Saint-Joseph University, and were attended by the universities students and the academicians concerned.
The meetings served to give briefings about UNESCO, the Lebanese National Commission for UNESCO and the UNESCO clubs: their initiation; mission; areas of interest and the partners thereof.
The "UNESCO Club at the Lebanese Universities" project is to geared to have the following objectives:
- reinforcing team work
- raising civic awareness among university students in order for them to be active and productive citizens
- contributing to their training on democracy and human rights
- encouraging their participation in economic and social development
- disseminating the will for mutual understanding and cooperation by means of direct communication & discussion; exchanging information, and via countless ways of contacts that the modern allows for.
Upon the conclusion of the four meetings, which were conducted within the four universities, the National Commission organized two workshops Leadership & Human Relations; and Interpersonal Conflict Resolution Skills - which targeted the universities students, who expressed their wish to be the UNESCO club members.
The LNCU wanted the two workshops to equip the students with the needed skills that would help them in their future UNESCO Club activities and would empower them as essential human resources for the development of their society.
The first workshop entitled "Leadership and Human Relations" took place on March 16th and 17th, 2002, and was conducted in
cooperation with Dr. Mounah Geha, director
of "Master Plan" a specialized firm in training
on leadership skills. The workshop tackled
topics such as: team work; group dynamics;
human behavior; human relations; leadership
and the leader's role in development. Dr. Raed Mohsen, an expert on communication, also intervened on the subject of Human Relations: Communication and listening.
The second workshop entitled "Interpersonal Conflict Resolution Skills" took place on April 13th and 14th 2002 at the UNESCO Palace,
and was conducted in cooperation with Mr. Armen
Balian and Mr. Zaher Ballout from the Lebanese
Conflict Resolution Network (LCRN). The workshop
focused on the following themes: understanding
conflict; personal conflict response styles;
communication and problem solving; how to
confront; conflict analysis skills; empathy skills and negotiation skills.

Workshop for training a number of public schools' librarians :
2 - 13 July 2001 Beirut - Lebanon
In collaboration with the Arab League for education, culture and science organization (ALECSO), a workshop was held for the librarians and administrators of a number of public schools libraries in Lebanon at UNESCO Palace from July 2nd till 13, 2001.
The Director General of ALECSO, Dr. El Munji Bou Sneinah attended the closing ceremony and distributed diplomas to the participants.
28 trainees, selected, by the ministry of education and higher education, from the different public schools in Lebanon, participated in the workshop which aimed in the first place to enhance their skills, and to empower them to how to structure the libraries at their respective schools.
The subject matter of the workshop focused around the following 7 topics:

functions of a school library

managing a school library
-
books acquisition
-
services rendered by a school library
-
cataloguing and classification
-
complementary cultural activities
-
usage of information of technology in a school library
The workshop was mostly practical oriented, specially with regard to the topic of "information technology", where computers and Internet services were provided, allowing the participants to have hands on experience.

- A workshop on Human Rights Education: 23-24 February 2001 Beirut-Lebanon
The workshop was tailored in such a way as to equip school teachers with the basic knowledge about the Charter of Human Rights and to also train them to create awareness among their students about daily life issues relating to Human Rights.

- Workshop on Conflict Resolution: 30-31 October 2000 Beirut-Lebanon
Within the framework of the International year for peace, a workshop on conflict resolution in schools was organized. Thirty teachers from different Associated Schools participated in the workshop. Practical exercises were mainly used to attain the objective.

- Workshop on World Heritage Educational Kit: 2-3 March 2000 Beirut-Lebanon
A number of Associated schools teachers were trained with the aim of familiarizing them with the Kit and to enable them put it to use in their relative schools. The workshop was followed by two other related workshops. Remarks and suggestions, coming from the schools after experimenting on the Kit, were communicated to UNESCO for the producing of an improved version of the Kit.

Workshop for the review and appraisal of the national report on Education For All :

In order to finalize the draft EFA National Report, experts and various stakeholders were invited to discuss and advise on the EFA report.

Training sessions for UNESCO Clubs: 5 September 1998 Beirut-Lebanon
Training sessions for members of UNESCO clubs were organized with the aim of empowering the trainees with the needed skills and in order to enable them to elaborate projects that meet the needs of local society. The workshop also sought to promote UNESCO clubs and their role in developing the society at large.

- Regional Workshop on the production of educational materials for special education:
17-23 March 1998 Beirut-Lebanon
Experts from the Arab region participated in the workshop. It aimed at producing educational material for children with special needs. The materials produced were distributed to those Lebanese NGOs working in the field.
