Seminar on “Arabic Language and its Role in Building a Culture for Children and Adolescents” (Presidency of the Lebanese University - Museum, 21/02/2012)

The Lebanese National Commission and the Lebanese University co-organized a seminar on the occasion of the International Mother Language Day on the "Arabic Language and its Role in Building a Culture for Children and Adolescents" under the patronage of the Minister of Culture Mr. Gaby Layoun, represented by Dr. Adonis Akra, and in the presence of the President of the University, Dr. Adnan Sayyid Hussein represented by the Dean of the Faculty of Letters and Human Sciences, Dr. Wafaa Berry, and a number of scholars and activists in the field of literature of children and adolescents, and publishing houses in Lebanon.
The seminar aimed at encouraging actors in the book industry (writer, editor, libraries) to produce quality books for youth, to help develop independent and self-fulfilling human beings.

Overview

The Lebanese National Commission for UNESCO is a national body that liaises between the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as well as the Arab League Educational Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) and the Anna Lindh Euro-Mediterranean Foundation for the Dialogue between Cultures (ALF) on one side, and the national official departments and the Lebanese civil society on the other side, in the areas of education, sciences, culture and communication.

In assuming the roles of liaison, consultation, and communication, also mobilizing and coordinating partnerships with the civil society, the Lebanese National Commission renders substantial contributions to the implementation of UNESCO, ALECSO and ALF programs and to the dissemination of their values and objectives.
