On the occasion of the International Day of Francophonie (Presidency of the Lebanese University - Museum, 20/03/2012)

On the occasion of the International Day of Francophonie, on March 20, the Lebanese National Commission for Unesco and the Lebanese University organized, under the patronage of the Minister of Culture, Mr. Gaby Layoun, an encounter with the Syrian francophone novelist Myriam Antaki, to discuss the French language and the francophone literature in Syria. Attendees were Mr. Michel de Chadarevian representing the Minister of Culture, the President’s representative before la Francophonie Prof. Khalil Karam, President of CNRS Prof. Georges Tohme, H.E Prof. Ibrahim Najjar, and other academic and literary personalities.
The encounter was followed by selected readings from francophone Lebanese writers, presented by two students of the University.

Overview

The Lebanese National Commission for UNESCO is a national body that liaises between the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as well as the Arab League Educational Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) and the Anna Lindh Euro-Mediterranean Foundation for the Dialogue between Cultures (ALF) on one side, and the national official departments and the Lebanese civil society on the other side, in the areas of education, sciences, culture and communication.

In assuming the roles of liaison, consultation, and communication, also mobilizing and coordinating partnerships with the civil society, the Lebanese National Commission renders substantial contributions to the implementation of UNESCO, ALECSO and ALF programs and to the dissemination of their values and objectives.
